How to Choose Fabric for a Cassock

The choice of fabric affects not only the appearance of an outer cassock or inner cassock, but also how comfortable the garment is to wear in different climates and how easy it is to care for. Some materials are better suited to cooler weather, while others are more comfortable in hot, humid climates. Some retain a neat appearance for longer, while others stand out for their attractive texture and exceptional lightness.

In these descriptions, we provide the composition and key characteristics of the specific fabrics we work with.

Standard

Composition: 45% viscose, 55% polyester.

This is a good-quality suiting fabric of the type also used for jackets and trousers. The combination of viscose and polyester makes it practical, comfortable to wear, and well suited for everyday use.

The fabric does not have the pronounced sheen often associated with many synthetic materials, so cassocks made from it have a restrained and dignified appearance. It is a versatile choice for temperate climates and for wearing indoors at a comfortable temperature.

Wool

Composition: 45% wool, 55% polyester.

A wool-blend fabric for cool and cold climates. It successfully combines the warmth and refined appearance of wool with the practicality of polyester.

The fabric wrinkles moderately, helping the garment maintain a neat appearance during wear. It is a good choice for anyone looking for a warm and practical cassock.

A gentle wash cycle is recommended.

Premium Wool

Composition: 100% wool.

A natural wool fabric with a refined and distinguished appearance. It wrinkles less, does not become fuzzy, and retains its shape and attractive appearance when properly cared for.

Premium Wool is an excellent choice for those who value natural fibers, high-quality material, and an impeccable appearance. It is particularly well suited to cool and cold climates.

Dry clean only.

Linen

Linen is one of the best choices for hot, humid climates. It is breathable, absorbs moisture, and remains comfortable in high temperatures.

Linen has an attractive natural texture that gives the garment a light and refined appearance.

Its main characteristic should be considered when choosing this fabric: linen wrinkles heavily during wear. This is a natural property of the material, not a flaw in the garment.

Bamboo

Composition: 100% bamboo fiber.

Bamboo is an attractive fabric that feels pleasant to the touch and resembles lightweight silk. It has a smooth texture, looks beautiful in a finished garment, and creates a sense of lightness.

The fabric absorbs moisture well and is breathable, making it especially comfortable in hot, humid climates.

Please note that this material wrinkles heavily during wear.

This fabric is currently available only in the color “Wet Asphalt.”

Wet Silk

Composition: 100% polyester.

Wet Silk is a lightweight fabric with an attractive sheen. It has an elegant and distinctive appearance, giving the finished garment a light and graceful look.

The name is commercial: the fabric does not contain natural silk.

This material is less suitable for hot, humid climates, as garments made from it may feel uncomfortable in high temperatures.

Economy

Composition: 100% polyester.

A practical and affordable fabric that wears well and retains a neat appearance. It is a reliable choice for regular use at a reasonable price.

The fabric is easy to care for. However, in high temperatures and humid conditions, it may feel less comfortable than materials made from natural or cellulosic fibers.

Cashmere

The composition may vary by batch and may include wool, llama fiber, silk, or viscose.

A lightweight, dense, warm, and exceptionally soft coat-weight fabric with a refined appearance. It is pleasant to the touch, does not feel scratchy, and, despite its density, does not look coarse or heavy.

A cassock made from this fabric has a distinguished appearance and retains warmth well. It is a premium choice for cold climates.

The fabric requires careful handling. Dry clean only.

Coat-Weight Fabric

Fabric type: wool blend.

This is a dense, coat-weight wool-blend material intended for winter cassocks and cold climates. It retains warmth well, has a traditional and formal appearance, and is suitable for extended wear in cold weather.

Compared with Cashmere, this fabric is heavier and noticeably more scratchy. It becomes wet in the rain, so the garment should be protected from prolonged exposure to precipitation.

Dry cleaning is recommended.
